A very warm greeting to my students
and faculty members!
It gives me immense pleasure to present the
annual report of the college.
Rajiv Gandhi Govt. College, Saha
(Ambala) is one of the finest co-educational institutions providing B.A.,
B.Com. and B.Sc. (Medical and
Non-Medical) and, M. Com. & M. Sc. (Geography) courses. Its mission is to provide
quality education to the students and enhancing their knowledge and skills by
providing them adequate learning facilities in a healthy environment. It is my
heartfelt desire that the college progresses in future and I may be able to
lead our students from darkness of ignorance to the light of knowledge, by
following the college motto ‘Tamso Ma Jyotirgamaya’.

Annual Report
(2023-24)
The college is progressing every
year. This year a total of 1049 students are admitted in the college including
481 boys and 568 girls. During this year, there are 26 regular (including 03 on
deputation) and 07 extension members in teaching staff; 12 non-teaching staff
members, 01 computer instructor, 01 computer-attendant; 03 manpower under HKRN,
and 05 apprentices in the college. Dr. Sonu Lohat, Associate Professor of
English, is on deputation to Govt. College Shahazadpur. Dr. Anuradha (on
deputation from Jat College, Hisar) Associate Professor of English left in
March as she had her deputation period over.
I feel
immense pleasure to share that during this session on 5-6 March 2024 the
college underwent NAAC inspection and was awarded with B+ NAAC grade. On 16-4-2024 an Academic and Administrative
audit (AAA) was done by the joint team from Higher Education Haryana and K. U.
Kurukshetra. We also got the College
Annual Magazine ‘GYANANJALI’ published for the first time in this session.
Extension Activities
NSS - Our students are engaged in
community activities through NSS unit. The Unit has adopted Saha village under
Unnat Bharat Scheme. Various activities, rallies and pledge ceremonies were
organized under Cleanliness Drive, Tree Plantation, Nasha Mukti Abhiyan, etc.
Various competitions such as essay writing, slogan writing, poster making,
quiz, etc have been organized time to time.
The Unit organized lectures on ‘Balanced Diet and Nutrition,
Yoga activities, free Anemia and Health check-ups, participation in cyclothon,
etc. to create awareness for healthy lifestyle. Organized various activities to
celebrate National Unity Day such as Unity Pledge, Reading the Preamble,
Reading the Article 51A (Fundamental Duties), Lecture on life of Sardar Vallabh
bhai Patel. Organized many One-day camps to aware the people about social
issues, plastic hazards, cleanliness, etc. Organized Clean India Campaign at
Bajigar Majri (Basti), Saha. Students
were made aware about Road Safety, First aid, Drug Abuse through lectures,
webinars, seminars and camps etc.
In July 2023, about 100 NSS Volunteers got registered on YUVA Portal for getting internships/ jobs
in private companies for session 2023-2024; under
Meri Mati Mera Desh Abhiyan, about
100 NSS Volunteers got registered for this program to
collect soil and water from their villages and using that for planting trees to
replenish the environment; Under Tree Plantation week, NSS Volunteers planted approx. 75 saplings at their homes
and other different locations to save the environment and conserve it for
future generations. Later on, during 23-29 July 2023 and during 09-15 August
2023 also planted approx. 70 saplings. In collaboration with NCC, NSS Unit
celebrated Independence day and Republic day. Volunteer Ankit participated
in National Integration Camp at K.U. Kurukshetra from 25-31 July 2023. And also got first position and a medal in
Skit. On Sep 18, 2023, two NSS Volunteers Khushi and
Simran of BA II participated in Pre-RD Trial and Selection camp organized at
Community Centre, K. U. Kurukshetra. On September 19, 2023, the College
NSS Unit hosted an Orientation Programme for newly enrolled NSS Volunteers
(First year). NSS unit of RGGC SAHA and BDPO, Saha
organised and participated in Meri Mati Mera Desh program at Office of BDPO,
Saha on 5th Oct. 2023. NSS Volunteer Ankit attended and participated in the ten
days National Adventure Camp at Regional Mountaineering Centre McLeodganj,
Himachal Pradesh from 15 to 24 Nov. 2023. NSS
PO along with 25 NSS Volunteers reached Sector-04, Dussehra Ground, Karnal on
25/09/2023 to attend and participate in the Cyclothon Rally under the
leadership of hon’ble Chief Minister. An Inter College Level MCQ exam was
organized by NSS Unit and Road Safety club of the College on 27/10/2023. NSS
Volunteers- Ritika, Lavish and Nikita got second
position in the exam. Two NSS Volunteers Simran Dhiman and Sushil attended and participated in the ten days National
Adventure Camp at Hathkoti, Himachal Pradesh from 09 to 18 Jan. 2024. An
Education trip to Panchkula was organised on 20 Jan
2024. Book Fair at Panchkula, Mata Mansa Devi Mandir and Nada Sahib Gurdwara
etc. places were visted. 13 NSS Volunteers shown interest on mybharat.gov.in
portal for internship program under Barara Police station (Ambala), 03 NSS
Volunteers under Mahesh Nagar Police station (Ambala) and 01 NSS Volunteer
under Shahbad Police station (kurukshetra). Natasha and Hardik (02 NSS
Volunteers) participated in University Level NSS camp
at SD College Panipat. A Seven-Day Special Day and Night Camp from 13-19
March 2024 was organized by the unit.
NCC
- The college NCC Unit inculcates the
values of patriotism, dutifulness, discipline, etc. into the students through
conducting various activities.
Two senior wing cadets Suman final
year and Khushi of second year attended army attachment camp from 01 to 12
August 2023 organized by 1st Haryana Girls Battalion NCC Ambala
Cantt. Seventeen Cadets attended the centrally organized Annual Training
Camp-93 from 02 to 11 Aug. 2023 held at Doon Valley College Karnal, Haryana.
Cadet Gurender Singh Saini won Gold Medal in piloting in the camp. Lauded March
Pasts were carried out on the occasions of 77th Independence Day and
75th Republic Day Celebrations. NCC officer Sunil Kumar completed
three months Military Training for PRNC held from 12-06-2023 to 09-09-2023.
Lectures, Shramdaan to remove garbage, Rangoli Competition, Poster Making
Competition, Pledge taking, etc. were carried out under Swacchata Pakhwada
2023. National Unity Day was celebrated
in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Tepla by awaring the students about
the digress of stubble burning and management of crop residue. NCC Officer and
the Cadets participated in campaign for vote drive organized by Dept. of
Political Science on the eve of National Constitution. In collaboration with
college Women Cell, a Lecture Series and Poster Making competition were
organized to celebrated National Women’s Day to commemorate the birth
anniversary of Smt. Sarojini Naidu. Seven NCC cadets appeared in NCC ‘C’
certificate examination held at GMN College Ambala Cantt. Thirteen cadets
appeared in NCC ‘B’ certificate examination held at SD College Ambala Cantt.
NCC cadets presented ‘Samman Guard’ to the NAAC peer team visiting the college
on 05-06 March 2024. Many NCC cadets participated in Annual athletic meet and
bagged many prizes. Cadet Santy of B.A. final year was adjudged as best athlete
of the meet. NCC Sub-Unit of the college in collaboration with 1, ASC, Air
Force Ambala organized an awareness campaign regarding Agnipath scheme for
recruitment of Agniveervayu in Indian Air Force.
Women Cell -
The college has an energetic Women
Cell that organizes various activities to empower the girls in all spheres of
life, whether it is professional development, physical fitness, mental fitness
or socio-cultural activities.
A Mehandi competition was organized
to celebrate Haryali Teej festival. A Free Hand Sketching Competition was
organized on the occasion of the completion of 75th Anniversary of Indian
Independence. A Health Talk was organized in collaboration with NSS unit to
aware the students about the primitive stage of any disease and Aayushman
Bharat Yojana. Two Extension Lectures were organized under sixth National
Nutrition Month; Topics were “Healthy Breakfast for Adolescents” and “Healthy
Breakfast and Anemia.”. A Three-Days Self Defense Training/ Workshop for the
girl students was organized to teach them tactics to escape from any adverse
situation. A Diwali Mela was organized on the occasion of Diwali. A Lecture
Series and Slogan Writing competition were organized in collaboration with NCC
unit to celebrate Indian National Women’s Day with the theme of women
empowerment. A Mehandi competition was organized to celebrate Karwa Chauth
festival. Cash prizes along with certificates were distributed to the winners
in various competitions.
Cultural
Committee - The Cultural Committee brings out the creative side of the
students by conducting various activities like Dancing, Singing, Debate,
Rangoli Making, Poster Making, Declamation, Slogan Writing, Poem Recitation,
Shlok Uchcharan, Skit, Mono-Acting, Instrument Playing, etc. The activities
conducted during the session are: Orientation Programme for First Year
students; Talent Show; Lohri Utsav; Jhankar Utsav; Twinning Programme with GHS
Mehmoodpur, GGHS Saha, GSSS Saha and
GSSS Rampur Chhapra; Jhankaar Utsav, etc.
Prepared the students for
participation in 46th Zonal Youth Festival, in Ratnawali KUK and in
District Youth Festival; prepare them for participation in various
inter-college competitions.
Sports Committee – The College has an
active Sports Committee. It motivates the students towards sports activities
and prepares them for participation in events conducted inside or outside the
state. Following the tradition, the committee organized a one-day 17th
Annual Athletic Meet on 18-03-2024. The students participated enthusiastically
in various events during Annual Athletic meet like sprint, race, high jump,
long jump, relay race, shot-put, etc. Mr. Santi was selected as Best Athlete
male and Ms. Shalu was selected as Best Athlete female.
Our students
participated in inter-college Taekwondo championship, Karate championship,
Pencak Silat championship held at Sports Complex K.U. Kurukshetra. Students
Inderjeet Kaur and Anjali attended camp for All India Inter University Karate
championship 2023-24 held at Sports Complex K.U. Kurukshetra. The committee
organized a two-day workshop on Yoga to encourage staff and students for yoga
and yogasanas. Our 10 students participated in two-day inter-college State Yoga
championship held at Govt. College for Women, Panchkula. The students held
positions and won 04 silver and 07 bronze medals, and cash prizes in various
championships.
Placement Cell –
The Placement cell looks after the
professional interests of students and organizes various activities for the
purpose. It organized 1. Two extension lecturers on
the topic Entrepreneurship Development & Idea Generation Bootcamp”. The
resource person of the day was “Mrs. Tanushree Chandra, center head, startup
Incubator Cum Center of Excellence, an initiative of department of higher
education 2. Organized two extension
lectures on the topics “Ekarma awareness session and career Counselling, The
resource person of the day was “Mr. Mayor Rana’ Marketing Manager Ekarma, An
Initiative of Department of Higher Education. 3. Placement Cell and the college
organized 10 days’ workshop on the topic “Mathematics, English, General
Awareness, Reasoning Etc., the workshop contains proper guidance of government
examination’s dates, eligibility. 4. Placement cell in collaboration with
geography department organized one day extension lecture on the topic “career
opportunities in remote sensing and GIS & application of GIS in health
geography”. 5. Mahendra Education Pvt. Ltd. Under the placement cell of this
college presented a discussion to assist the students in defining &
managing their career. 6 participation of 30 students from different streams
(M.Sc. Geography, B.A., B.Com, M.Com.) in job fair at Himalayan Group Of
Professional Institute , Kala, Amb, where the student were interviewed with about 5 companies.
Eco Club - Eco Club of the college
endeavour to aware and educate the students towards keeping the environment
green and sustainable. For this, the club organizes various activities. Debate
Competition, Poster Making Competition and Slogan Writing were organized during
this session.
Library
- The College has an automated and
well equipped fully air-conditioned library with 03 ACs. Here we have 9480
number of books. The library is equipped with 03 computers, 02 printers, 02
photocopy-cum-printer machine. There is an additional reading room for PG
students. We bring four magazines every month: Pratiyogita Darpan (English),
Competition Success Review and English & Hindi versions of India Today.
Recently our college got registered to become the member of N-LIST Programme of
MoE enabling our access to more than 6000+ e-journals, 199500+ e-books through
N-LIST and 600000+ e-books through NDL.
Scholarship – Scholarships are offered
to deserving and needy students to encourage them to take up Higher education.
This incentive falls in line with the motto of Higher Education of the State:
Access, Equity and Quality. Generation makes Nation. The college distributes
scholarship under various schemes provided by the Haryana Government. This year
many students received benefits under SC/ST scholarship, Post metric
Scholarship to BC, Haryana State Merit scholarship to UG girls students,
Haryana State Merit scholarship to UG/ PG students, Haryana State Meritorious
Incentive scholarship, Consolidated Stipend and Free Books Scheme for SC, and
other Scholarships.
Canteen Contract Committee - This committee ensures
the running of a canteen in the college so that staff and students can get
refreshment within the campus. The college got the rent fixed to a nominal rate
enabling the contractor to maintain quality. Also as per the guidelines from
DGHE the contractor has been instructed to use HAFED mustard oil and Vita milk
in the canteen.
Apprenticeship Committee - Adhering to the Haryana
Government’s policy of providing practical and ground-level knowledge of office
working to the pass-outs from vocational institutions, the college every year
engages ITI pass-outs as apprentices. A complete process comprising written
test, practical test and viva-voce is followed. A panel comprising of the
office Dy. Supdt., computer instructor and computer attendant conduct the
process under the supervision of the committee and the principal. During this
session 05 apprentices were engaged including 04 under COPA trade and 01 under
Stenographer in Hindi.
Anti-Ragging
Cell - The
college has an Anti-Ragging Cell to provide a fear-free, stress-free, safe
environment to the fresher students in the college campus. The objective of the
cell is to aware the students about the Government’s Anti-Ragging Policy, to
educate them about ragging activities, to warn them against involvement in
ragging, to monitor and keep check on ragging activities, to look into the
complaints against ragging.
Road Safety, YRC and Red Ribbon Cell – The cell in collaboration with NCC and NSS organized quiz competitions,
lectures and exams to aware and educate the students about road safety rules,
hygiene, diseases, etc.
NAAC -The College has
undergone the process of accreditation by NAAC Peer Team on 5-6 March and it is
an immense pleasure to share that the college got B+ NAAC grade.
Departmental Activities
Department of English: The department conducted
a Quiz Competition based on syllabus, Content Reading competition, Essay
Writing competition, a Quiz competition under the auspices of Bhartiya Bhasha
Diwas in collaboration with Hindi deptt., Movie Screening of the Play-The Merchant
of Venice and The Monkey’s Paw.
Department of Hindi: The department conducted an Essay writing
Competition on Hindi Diwas; a Quiz Competition based on the syllabus; and a
Quiz competition under the auspices of Bhartiya Bhasha Diwas in collaboration
with English Deptt.
Department of Political Science: The department organized a special lecture on
National Unity Day, Constitution Day, Prakaram Diwas, and organized Voter
Awareness Campaign, National Voters’ Day and Declamation Contest under SVEEP.
Department of Psychology: The department organized Science Exhibition on the topics recommended by
worthy DGHE: on the titles- 1. Classical Conditioning: Pavlov’s experiment with
dog 2. Trial and Error Learning: Thorndike’s experiment with cat; revised the
Psychology Society; organized Slogan Writing competition on the topic ‘Drug Addiction’.
Department of Geography:
The department conducted
various activities during the session as Extension lecture by Mr. Pawan Dhaka,
Field Survey by M.Sc. 3rd Sem. Students, College Level Science
Exhibition, District Level Science Exhibition, Extension Lectures by Dr. Aman
Kumari and Socio-economic Survey by B.A. 6th Sem. Students.
Department
of Physics: The
department organized College Level Essay writing competition, College level
Science exhibition, Poster making competition, Creative Designing, Wall
Painting competition and a Lecture on Semi-Conductor & Opportunities in the
Field of Semiconductor.
Department
of Chemistry: The
department organized Poster Making
Competition, Power Point Competition, Road Safety Quiz and in collaboration
with NSS unit an Anemia and Teeth check-up camp, Extension Lecture on Mental
Health Day and Chemistry: The Magical Science.
Department of Mathematics: The Mathematics department organized
a Poster Making competition and Mathessence Life Artistry competition.
Department
of History: The
department organised Slogan writing competition to celebrate the 75th anniversary
of Independence, a Group Discussion on the syllabus, a subject society was
formed comprising 05 students.
Department
of Commerce & Economics: The department organized a Power point presentation, Group
discussion, Extension lecture, and Debate and Declamation competition.
