A note from Principal

 

A very warm greeting to my students and faculty members!

 It gives me immense pleasure to present the annual report of the college.

Rajiv Gandhi Govt. College, Saha (Ambala) is one of the finest co-educational institutions providing B.A., B.Com. and B.Sc. (Non-Medical) courses. Its mission is to provide quality education to students and enhancing their knowledge and skills by providing them adequate learning facilities in a healthy environment. It is my heartfelt desire that the college progresses in future and I may be able to lead our students from darkness to light, by following the college motto  ‘Tamso Ma Jyotirgamaya’.

Annual Report
 (2022 -23)

 

The college is progressing every year. This year a total of 1049 students are admitted in the college including 481 boys and 568 girls. During this year in the college, there are 26 regular (including 02 on deputation) and 07 extension members in teaching staff; 12 non-teaching staff members, 01 computer instructor, 01 computer attendant; 03 manpower under HKRN, and 04 apprentices. Dr. Gurdev Singh (on deputation) Assistant professor Punjabi retired. Ms. Paramveer (Dy. Supdt.) got transferred. Mr. Satish (Dy, Supdt.), Ms. Paramjeet (Clerk) and Mr. Abhishek (Clerk) joined the office. Later on, Ms. Paramjeet got promotion as Assistant and transferred. Dr. Ganeshwari Assist. Prof.,Geography Dept. and Dr. Seema Jangir Assist. Prof., History Dept. got their Ph.D. degrees.

 Extension Activities

NSS - Our students are engaged in community activities through NSS unit. Our college has adopted Saha village under Unnat Bharat Scheme. A lecture on “NSS and its Importance” was delivered by NSS PO. Various activities, rallies and pledge ceremonies were organized under Cleanliness Drive, Tree Plantation, Nasha Mukti Abhiyan, etc. Various competitions such as essay writing, slogan writing, poster making, quiz, etc have been organized time to time. The Unit organized lectures on ‘Balanced Diet and Nutrition, Yoga activities, free Anemia and Health check-ups, Fit India Freedom Run, etc. to create awareness for healthy lifestyle; Organized various activities to celebrate National Unity Day such as Unity Pledge, Reading the Preamble, Reading the Article 51 A (Fundamental Duties), Lecture on life of Sardar Vallabhai Patel, Fit India Unity Run; Organized One day camp on the eve of Gandhi Jayanti,  Swachhata Rally was organized to aware the people about plastic hazards, organized Clean India Campaign 3.0 at Bajigar Majri (Basti), Saha. Students were made aware about Road Safety, First aid, Drug Abuse through lectures, webinars, seminars and camps etc.

Volunteer Ushida participated in State level Pre RD Trial organized at CCSHAU Hisar. NSS Volunteers attended the ‘Entrepreneurship and Skill Development Program’ at Auditorium, Kurukshetra University; participated in the Socio Economic Survey; helped the officials from BDPO, Saha in updating the income of people via Family Id by using their smart mobiles; participated in the Socio Economic Survey; surveyed village Saha for collection of data for “National Survey of Youth not in Formal Education or Regular Employment”.

Organized a Seven-Day Special Day and Night Camp from 13-19 March 2023, A One-Day Blood Donation Camp; in collaboration with Department of Chemistry organized Industrial Visit for students in Saha Industrial Area to experience industrial working and interact with Industrial expertise; in collaboration with AYUSH organized a Block Level Event for International Yoga Day. The college got Certificate of Appreciation in recognition of helping in organizing Animal Rights Awareness Drive.

 

NCC - The college NCC Unit inculcates the values of patriotism, dutifulness, discipline, etc. into the students through conducting various activities. Enrolment process of 1st year cadets was duly carried out with the necessary supervision of permanent instructional staff of 2 Haryana Battalion NCC. To celebrate the 76th Independence Day an NCC parade was organized by the Senior Division boys and Senior Wing girl cadets of NCC unit of the college. The unit Contributed in crop residue management, tree plantation and environment conservation. Nine cadets of NCC sub –unit took part in training and capacity building for BMCS, PBR Quality Enhancement, communication and conservation awareness. NCC cadets participated in various events of Annual Talent Hunt program and assisted the college administration in co-ordination of the events and maintaining discipline in the college. Organized a lecture series to celebration of National Nutrition Month. In collaboration with Haryana Police Station Saha organized an awareness programme of Cyber security wherein the students were made aware about the modus operandi of cyber crime and about the simple steps to maintain cyber security. To commemorate the Birth Anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel as Rastriya Ekta Divas organized a one-hour run for unity from RGGC Saha to Saha village and back. In collaboration with Primary Heath Center Saha organized three anemia checkup camps. NCC cadets participated in a state level programme organized by NCC Directorate PHHP & C Chandigarh for 75th NCC Day celebration held at SD College, Ambala Cantt. 21 NCC cadets participated in Annual Training Camp-144 at GIMT Kanipla (Kurukshetra) held from 05 to 12 Dec 2022. On the celebration of 74th Republic Day, the NCC cadets presented spectacular march past and saluted the national flag. At Annual Athletic meet, many NCC cadets participated in various events and bagged many positions. Cadet Abhishek of B.A. final year was adjudged as Best Athlete. Three SW cadets participated in   Army Attachment Camp organized by 1 HR girls BN NCC Ambala Cantt at 40 artillery division c/o 2 crops from 09 to 20 March 2023.  Four cadets of NCC sub-unit   participated in inter sub-unit firing competition held at SD College, Ambala Cantt. Cadet Gurender Singh Saini stood 1st and cadet Simran bagged 3rd Position. They were selected to represent 2 HR BN NCC to take part in inter Battalion competition held at Sonepat Haryana. NCC sub-unit celebrated International year of Millet under G-20 leadership of India. Organized a blood donation camp in collaboration with Organization for Social and Cultural Awareness (OSCA), NSS unit and Red Ribbon Club and collected 39 units of blood. NCC cadets participated in quiz, yoga protocol training and in International Yoga day and took pledge to integrate yoga in their lives. The unit organized a lecture on International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

 Women Cell - The college has an energetic Women Cell that organizes various activities to empower the girls in all spheres of life, whether it is professional development, physical fitness, mental fitness or socio-cultural activities.

A Speech competition was organized on the topics of Role of Teacher in Student’s Life and in Nation Building, to aware the girls about balanced diet two extension lectures were organized, Essay writing, Slogan writing and Poster Making competitions were held to celebrate National Nutrition Month, a Mehandi competition on the occasion of Karva-Chauth and Diwali Mela were organised to celebrate Indian festivals.

 Cultural Committee - The Cultural Committee brings out the creative side of the students by conducting various activities like dancing, singing, debate, rangoli making, poster making, declamation, slogan writing, poem recitation, shlok uchcharan, skit, mono-acting, instrument playing, etc. The activities conducted during the session are: celebrated Independence Day, organized Orientation Program for newly admitted students,  prepared the students for participation in 45th Zonal Youth Festival, organized Talent Search Program, celebrated Republic Day, our student Nidhi participated in inter-college Poem Recitation Competition at S.A. Jain College, Ambala City.

 Sports Committee - The College has an active Sports Committee. It motivates the students towards sports activities and prepares them for participation in events conducted inside or outside the state. Following the tradition the committee organized a one-day 16th Annual Athletic Meet on 01-03-2023. The students participated enthusiastically in various events during Annual Athletic meet like sprint, race, high jump, long jump, relay race, shot-put, javelin throw, etc. Our students participated in various competitions and bagged 14 medals including 04 Silver and 14 Bronze medals.

Our college Cricket Team participated in DGHE sponsored Cricket Tournament at DAV College, Ambala City; in various events at Sports Complex KUK, Athlete, Shalu B.A.-1st Participated in 59th KUK annual athletic meet, college players participated in KUK inter college Wushu, Karate and  Taekwondo tournaments; Taekwondo player, Anjali participated in All India Camp from 27-12-2022 to 08-01-2023 at Sports Complex KUK and in All India Inter- University Camp from 09-12 Jan 2023 at GNDU Amritsar; Karate player, Inderjeet Kaur participated in All India Camp from 03-01-2022 to 08-01-2023 at Sports Complex KUK.

 IT Cell – Information technology has a broad term that involves use of technology to communicate. Now a days, IT has becomes the synonymous with everything related to digital communication and technology. The college has an active IT cell. The college has also adopted the e- governance (HRMS, MIS, On- Line admissions, ERP, etc.). Placement Cell – The Placement cell looks after the professional interests of students and organizes various activities for thye purpose. It organized a Seminar- cum- Discussion on by faculty of MEPL; a workshop on career counseling for overseas by faculty of Dream weaver, Ambala Cantt; a Seminar cum Interactive Session by Jio team for providing sales training; a Two-days Workshop for competitive exam preparation by MEPL.

Library - The College has anautomated and well equipped fully air-conditioned library with 03 ACs. Here we have 9480 number of books including thisyear’s addition of 251 books. The library is equipped with 03 computers, 02 printers, 02 photocopy-cum-printer machine. Two computers, six almirahs and one table/counter were purchased this year. An additional reading room has been made in the college library for PG students. We bring four magazines every month: Pratiyogita Darpan (English), Competition Success Review and English & Hindi versions of India Today.

 Eco Club - Eco Club of the college endeavour to aware and educate the students towards keeping the environment green and sustainable. For this, to celebrate Wildlife Week, a college level Slogan Writing competition and a state level Poster Making Competition (online) were organised by Eco Club and Dept of Geography; a  Poster Making Competition was organised for UG students; organised a  ‘Just a Minute’ activity;  Slogan Writing and Poster Making competitions were organised by Jal Shakti Committee and Eco Club.

 Important Day Celebration Cell - This cell educates the students about important days by organizing various activities to celebrate them. This year this cell celebrated Independence Day, Republic Day, Janjatiya Gaurav Divas, 147th Birth Anniversary of Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel as National Unity Day; organized Essay Writing Competitions on Constitution Day and on Anti- Corruption Day, Quiz Competition on International Human Right Day, an Extension Lecture on Ambedkar Jayanti and a Speech Competition on Shahidi Divas; organized an Oath for Voting on Voter’s Day.

 Mentorship program - The objective of mentorship program is to support students in improving learning skills and motivating them towards their career development. In this program special mentor/ tutorial classes were organized occasionally where discussions were made on various topics like Health and Hygiene, Preparation of Examination, Maintenance of Discipline, Subject Society constitution, etc.

 Scholarship - Scholarships are offered to deserving and needy students to encourage them to take up Higher education. This incentive falls in line with the motto of Higher Education of the State: Access, Equity and Quality. Generation makes Nation. The college distributes scholarship under various schemes provided by the Haryana Government. This year many students received benefits under SC/ST scholarship, Post metric Scholarship to BC, Haryana State Merit scholarship to UG girls students, , Haryana State Merit scholarship to UG/ PG students, Haryana State Meritorious Incentive scholarship, Consolidated Stipend and Free Books Scheme for SC, and Other Scholarships.

 Canteen Contract Committee - This committee ensures the running of a canteen in the college so that staff and students can get refreshment within the campus. Every year canteen contract is given to someone, preferably to some Ex-serviceman. Earlier the contract used to be given through open auction resulting in high value of monthly rent. But this year through correspondence with PWD Ambala the college got the rent fixed to a nominal rate enabling the contractor to maintain quality. Also as per the guidelines from DGHE the contractor has been instructed to use HAFED mustard oil and Vita milk in the canteen.

 Apprenticeship Committee - Adhering to the Haryana Government’s policy of providing practical and ground-level knowledge of office working to the pass-outs from vocational institutions, the college every year engages ITI pass-outs as apprentices. A complete process comprising written test, practical test and viva-voce is followed. A panel comprising the office Dy. Supdt., computer instructor and computer attendant conduct the process under the supervision of the committee and the principal. During this session 04 apprentices were engaged under COPA trade.

 Anti-Ragging Cell - The college has an Anti-Ragging Cell to provide a fear-free, stress-free, safe environment to the fresher students in the college campus. The objective of the cell is to aware the students about the Government’s Anti-Ragging Policy, To educate the students about ragging activities, to warn the students against involvement in ragging, to monitor and keep check on ragging activities, to look into the complaints against ragging.

 Road Safety, YRC and Red Ribbon Cell

 NAAC: - The College is under the process of  accreditation by NAAC and is preparing for IIQA.

 Departmental Activities

 Department of English: The department conducted a Quiz Competition for individual BA classes, a Common Quiz Competition for all BA and an Essay writing Competition; formed English Subject Society comprising of 05 students Sheetal, Komal, Abhishek, Taranpreet Kaur and Vishal Kumar.

 Department of Hindi: The department conducted an Essay writing Competition on Hindi Diwas and a Quiz Competition; formed Hindi Subject Society comprising of 05 students Chetna, Bharat, Nikita, Ankit and Bharti.

 Department of Political Science: The department organized a special lecture on The Life and Contribution of Sardar Patel by Ms. Deepa Rani to celebrate 147th Birth Anniversary of Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel as National Unity Day; organized Essay Writing Competitions on Constitution Day and on Anti-Corruption Day, Quiz Competition on International Human Rights Day, an Extension Lecture on Ambedkar Jayanti and a Speech Competition on Shahidi Divas; organized an Oath for Voting on Voter’s Day.

 Department of Psychology: The department organized Psychology dept. Science Exhibition on the topics: Stress Management, Understanding Schizophrenia, Healthy & Unhealthy lifestyle, Developing Empathy, How to take care of your mental health; Article writing competition on the topics: Improving Mental Health, Enhancing Memory, Motivation; Formed Psychology Subject Society.

 Department of Geography: The activities conducted by the department were a college level Slogan Making Competition and a State Level Poster Making Competition (online) together with Eco Club to celebrate Wildlife Week; Socio-economic field survey conducted at Tepla by MSc students, Essay Writing Competition and a lecture on GIS by N.I.G.M.T. for UG and PG students of Geography, Socio-economic survey conducted at Saha Village by students of BA III Geography.

 Department of Physics: Physics Society collectively organized a Quiz competition in Collaboration with Maths and Chemistry, an Essay writing competition on the occasion of Science day  and a Science Exhibition on the theme as provided by DGHE.

Department of Chemistry: Chemical society organizes various events in our college under chemistry department. there are various educational outreach and initiatives taken by chemical society to create enthusiasm among students. Fit India run ,Science quiz, College level science exhibition ,State level chemistry quiz, Chemistry the magical science, Poster making and Mission the industrial chemistry

 Department of Mathematics: The department organized a college level quiz competition in collaboration with physics and chemistry department, an Essay Writing Competition on the occasion of National mathematics day on the topics: History of mathematics, Contribution of Indian mathematician, Importance of Celebrating National mathematics day and Mathematics is like blood in veins of science.

Department of History: The department organised Slogan writing competition to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Independence, a Group Discussion on the syllabus, A subject society was formed comprising 05 students.

 Department of Commerce & Economics: These two departments collectively organized a Two-days Workshop for competitive exam preparation by MEPL, Power Point Presentation and a Debate & Declamation competition.


Faculty Achievements

All the regular teaching staff participated and successfully completed the UGC approved Short Term Professional Development Proramme on “Implementation of NEP-2020 for University and College Teachers”. Their other personal achievements are as under:

 

Ms. Ritu Sharma - A Assistant Professor of Commerce got one chapter published titled ‘Women Entrepreneurship and Inclusive Growth’ in edited book named Role of Women Entrepreneurship in Development of Indian Economy.

Dr. Sonu Lohat - Associate Professor of English got 03 research papers published in different international peer-reviewed journals, on the titles:  Overwhelming Communal Hatred and Love Force in Train to Pakistan and A Bend in the Ganges; Inversion of Roles in the Dialectics of Native and Settler: A study of A Bend in the Ganges in Light of Fanon's Wretched of the Earth; Carnal Life: Quest for Love and Self in Khushwant Singh's Burial at Sea and Tarun Tejpal's the Alchemy of Desire.

Ms. Chanchal Verma - Assistant Professor of Commerce presented 04 research papers in seminars/ conferences etc. One in international seminar on the title ‘Green Libraries: A Tool for Sustainable Development in Nation’ in Arya Kanya Mahavidyalaya, Shahabad Markanda; other three in national seminars: on the topic ‘Gender Sensitization’ in Promoting Awareness of Gender Related Issues through Education, in Govt. P.G. College. Ambala Cantt; on ‘GST: A Milestone in Indian Economy’ in Govt. College Aharwalal (Bilaspur) Yamuna Nagar; on ‘Inclusive Pathways: An Institutional Framework for Formal Education’ in Jyotiba Phule Govt. College, Radaur (Yamuna Nagar); Successfully completed one-week NEP-PDP organized by IGNOU; Successfully completed two-days online training under Placement Cell, as a part of SMARTH project of DHE; Successfully completed one-week FDP organized by Ramanujan College of Delhi University.

Dr. Sukhbir Singh - Assistant Professor of Sanskrit got one research paper published in an international peer-reviewed journal, on the title: Ekam Savdipra Bahudha Vadanti. Awarded with certificate and memento by Sh. Ghanshyam Shukha IFS for his valuable contribution in crop residue management, tree plantation and environment conservation.

Sh. Ranbir Singh - Assistant Professor in English was awarded with certificate and memento by Sh. Ghanshyam Shukha IFS for his valuable contribution in crop residue management, tree plantation and environment conservation.

Dr. Reema Bansal - Assistant Professor of Psychology got one research paper published in International Research Journal of Commerce Arts and Science, on the title: Observations Regarding Clients' Expectation and Reality of Psychotherapy.

Dr. Sunita R. Mehra - Assistant Professor of English got one research paper published in an international peer-reviewed and refereed journal, on the title: Feminine Awakening in the Novels of Kamala Markandaya.

Ms. Natasha - Assistant Professor of Chemistry along with Ms. Chanchal Verma as co-author got 02 chapters published in different edited books on the titles ‘Gender Sensitization’ in Promoting Awareness of Gender Related Issues Through Education; and ‘Tools and Techniques’ in the book titled Research Problem Formulation: Concept and Process.

Mr. Nitin Kumar Verma - Assistant Professor of Chemistry got one research paper published in an international peer-reviewed and refereed journal, on the title: ‘Covid-19 : Opportunity for Redirecting  Education Sector’.

Mr. Mandeep Singh - Assistant Professor of Chemistry got one research paper published in an international peer-reviewed and refereed journal, on the title: ‘Covid -19: Pandemic: Impact on Education Sector in the Field of Science’.

Sh. Sanjay Kumar - Assistant Professor of Political Science attended and completed a Refresher Course organized by HRDC, University of Rajasthan from 11-23 July 2023.

Dr. Seema Jangir - Assistant Professor of History got one research paper published in an international peer-reviewed and refereed journal, on the title: ‘Was Akbar Literate or Illiterate: A case Study’. Attended UGC-sponsored online workshop on NEP-2020 on the theme “Integrated Higher Education System”; Participated in IP Awareness/Training Program under National Intellectual Property Awareness Mission organized by IP office, India.


 

 Students’ Achievements

 It is of utmost importance to mention the student’s achievements and I feel proud to announce that our players bagged 18 medals in various inter-college sports championships. Their individual achievements is as under:

1.      Inderjeet Kaur  got second position in Karate and won silver medal in Inter-college State Championship held at KUK, Kurukshetra.

2.      Rakesh Kumar got second position in Karate and won silver medal in Inter-college State Championship held at KUK, Kurukshetra.

3.      Inderjeet Kaur got second position in Taekwondo and won silver medal in Inter-college State Championship held at KUK, Kurukshetra.

4.      Ajay Kumar got second position in Taekwondo and won silver medal in Inter-college State Championship held at KUK, Kurukshetra.

5.      Rakesh Kumar got third position in Wushu and won Bronze medal in Inter-college State Championship held at KUK, Kurukshetra.

6.      Tanishka got third position in Wushu and won Bronze medal in Inter-college State Championship held at KUK, Kurukshetra.

7.      Priyanka got third position in Wushu and won Bronze medal in Inter-college State Championship held at KUK, Kurukshetra.

8.      Anjali got third position in Wushu and won Bronze medal in Inter-college State Championship held at KUK, Kurukshetra.

9.      Anjali got third position in Karate and won Bronze medal in Inter-college State Championship held at KUK, Kurukshetra.

10.  Sonia got third position in Karate and won Bronze medal in Inter-college State Championship held at KUK, Kurukshetra.

11.  Saloni got third position in Karate and won Bronze medal in Inter-college State Championship held at KUK, Kurukshetra.

12.  Natasha got third position in Karate and won Bronze medal in Inter-college State Championship held at KUK, Kurukshetra.

13.  Priyanka got third position in Karate and won Bronze medal in Inter-college State Championship held at KUK, Kurukshetra.

14.  Alka Devi got third position in Karate and won Bronze medal in Inter-college State Championship held at KUK, Kurukshetra.

15.  Tanishka got third position in Karate and won Bronze medal in Inter-college State Championship held at KUK, Kurukshetra.

16.  Nitin Kumar got third position in Karate and won Bronze medal in Inter-college State Championship held at KUK, Kurukshetra.

17.  Ashok Kumar got third position in Karate and won Bronze medal in Inter-college State Championship held at KUK, Kurukshetra.

18.  Lovepreet got third position in Karate and won Bronze medal in Inter-college State Championship held at KUK, Kurukshetra.

19.  Shalu B.A.-1st Participated as Athlete in 59th KUK annual athletic meet.

20.  Taekwondo player, Anjali participated in All India Camp from 27-12-2022 to 08-01-2023 at Sports Complex KUK and in All India Inter- University Camp from 09-12 Jan 2023 at GNDU Amritsar.

21.   Karate player, Inderjeet Kaur participated in All India Camp from 03-01-2022 to 08-01-2023 at Sports Complex KUK.

22.      NCC Cadet Abhishek of B.A. final year was adjudged as Best Athlete in college Annual Athletic Meet.

23.  NCC Cadet Gurender Singh Saini participated in inter sub-unit firing competition held at SD College, Ambala Cantt. and stood 1st in the competition and he was also  selected to represent 2 HR BN NCC to take part in inter Battalion competition held at Sonepat, Haryana.

24. NCC Cadet Simran participated in inter sub-unit firing competition held at SD College, Ambala Cantt. and bagged 3rd Position and she was also selected to represent 2 HR BN NCC to take part in inter Battalion competition held at Sonepat, Haryana.
